I was unsure as to whether three weeks recovery was going to be long enough. But, I got a few decent runs in after London. I made a decision to forget about the GFA worry and just go for it. I bought some lightweight trainers (Asic Hyperspeeds) which dropped my shoe weight by over 300g in total and wore lighter socks (35g). I didn't have time to try them out before the race. I was taking some risks. I fell over badly just before the start and lost my race number and cut my leg. Luckily a woman pointed out that my number had come off (with chip) and I rescued it. I was saying f*** a lot. I also lost two safety pins, but only 2 mins to go before the start so I reattached it as best I could and tried to focus (not on my bleeding shin). I got stuck at the start behind people who had, yet again placed themselves way to far forward. Why do they do that? Once I got free I pushed hard to pull back the time, faster than I intended. Then, I became confused. I was running quickly according to my watch (around 4:15) - and it wasn't lying - but my heart rate was low. It felt good. But, I slowed up after 2km fearful that I was over cooking it and tried to hold something closer to my 4:30 planned pace. As a result I had 15km going slower than I should have. I just didn't believe that I could run that fast.
