That 5 hour drive knocked me out, sleepy slow drive looking out for moose. Was going to hike Bigelows after the drive but decided to sleep instead and revisit in the morning. As I pulled into the lot to park… lighting in the distance. “Fuck” I pulled out drove up the road to check the weather and the front was more east which means rain. Thankfully with monitoring there was only lightning at night. I spent all morning hoping the rain would ease but it was strong, pouring yellow rain ALL DAY, some green and light but never once did it stop. 
I sat on my choice to go or not but I want this so I went. 
Trail was super slick, I was slipping on the way up lol. I don’t think any shoe would’ve helped with the standing water, streams and slick leaf covered trail. Only 1.5 miles in the back on logging path was runnable, BUT on the back herd path/“road” (it was bushwhacking for the most part) there was STEAMY poop from moose and bear… I stayed singing “moose’s and the bears, bears and the moose’s” there was so many fresh tracks. I was on edge. 
Then I had to endure a bald summit with like 3 false summits in windy rain, that was uncomfortable. Probably had a total of 5-10 falls on this loop. Ended chafed and blistered and bruised, but glad I did it. I don’t know if I would even like that loop in good weather tbh.
