Oh man where to start. This was the most I’ve ever struggled mentally during a race. It took sooo long to find any sort of groove, which was immediately crushed when I rolled the bad ankle hard. Thank God for ibuprofen; I was downing it like candy today (BAD idea; the stomach isn’t happy lol). Missing three weeks of training for sure set me back from where I wanted to be going into today. I wasn’t able to push the climbs or downs as much as I would’ve liked. 

THAT BEING SAID, I was able to FINALLY break into the top five! Possibly could’ve taken fourth, but I was cooked when I had a chance to surge, and the guy in front of me was a tank and just never stopped. Top three was the goal, but given the circumstances, I’m elated with the result today.

P.S. Given how mentally draining this race was, I have officially decided not to run Hellgate this year. Here’s to what is about to be the greatest aid station crew ever assembled.
