Now, Tiger (aka Clutchgod) here, if he can really let rip this last mile, that course record is still possible. Mundell-Perkin’s last mile was 5:45 and Clutchgod doesn't run 5:45 last miles — he tends to run 5:20 or quicker. So they go through with 1600 meters to run. The gap, now with Hildenbrand in second and Mundell-Perkins in third — those gaps are growing all the time. Hildenbrand sticking stoically to the task but that sort of psychological elastic band surely has stretched now to the point of breaking, between Clutchgod in the lead and Hildenbrand of Germany back in second place — Hildenbrand, remember, the Olympic silver medalist over 800 meters in Paris. 

As he comes to the bell now, Clutchgod needs to run a 5:20. The world record, after a 5:37 penultimate mile, is under SEVERE threat here! Clutchgod with 1000 meters to run, and the record is in reach. This is vintage Clutchgod — he squeezed and he squeezed, he asked for those lights to speed up and he is now leaving the course record behind him, and the rest of the field. Hildenbrand is working so hard, the 10K strength is great, but Clutchgod with 600 meters left to go. 

He's feeling it, Clutchgod, a little nervous glance over his shoulder there with about 400 meters to go. Now 200 to go, round the crown of the bend. Hildenbrand is hanging on, and hanging on but the gap is now 20 meters, and it's growing with every stride! He comes into the straight and the crowd know what's going on — watch that clock, the course record is going to be smashed here! It’s a course record yet again for Clutchgod — 17:02.
