I caught a cheap flight to DFW and then drove the rest. The rental car by happenstance was a Colorado car. I felt ok, better than the last 2 weeks, and ready to race and show off some SportHill apparel. Check it out. 

The morning  was overcast, humid, and 41 degrees. It would warm up to 43 by the end of the race. After a leisurely warm up I toed the line. Today felt different, there would be some competition. 

The race began, and i bolted like Pre to the lead. What was I doing? I normally don't  go out so fast, but I was, and I felt like it was sustainable. 2nd place was pushing me to and would stay near to my tail for the first 2 miles. 3rd was not far back either. Soon I had a minute lead. 

Then a mishap: Near mile 4     I miss read a trail marker and went the wrong way. I was going too fast. I quickly realized my mistake and turned around but ran a total of an extra 90 seconds and about .2  to  .3 of a mile. Was I still in 1st? I was not sure at first but then long straighaways confirmed that I still had the lead. 

I kept pushing the pace, rather I was trying not to slow down. The course was extra twisty with plenty of switchbacks. The ground rocky, with random roots, and slick pineneedles. 2 small creek crossings, which, if fast enough could be navigated without wetting the feet, stood as fun obsticles. 

My lead was good so I kept pushing my pace. Had to break 7 minute pace. Mission successful. And got another state!
28 states raced in. 

Project 50-50 update:
14 out of 50 states won in last 8ish months. 12 CRs
16 out of 50 states won all time. CRs in 14 states.

Grateful to be healthy, blessed, and able to to run. Thanks, gratitude, and glorry to God.
