Convenient Adventure #5

Beautiful and epic adventure as always.  For the 5th running of the Convenient Adventure a group of us did the entire 50 mile course of the Shawnee 50, which will take place for the first time in November.  Travis, Cooper, Wesley, and I did the entire course and Joe S. and Seth tagged in for the last 27.5 miles.

I had the course plotted out on Google Maps as being about 52.5 miles and 10,000 feet of gain and today I got 54 miles and over 12000 feet of gain!  Super challenging.

For the run we took it fairly relaxed for the majority of the day, taking rests as certain locations and grabbing aid at places we stashed the night before.  This start was a conservative approach, but by the end Travis and I really lowered our overall pace. Just a bit over 12 hours of overall time.  Moving time had us at 10:47:55.  

This will be a very hard 50 mile course, one of the most remote courses, and gnarliest course in the midwest.  I hope people come and check it out! Putting it all together in one run was really cool because I had ran all of these sections many times in the past but you never truly feel the magnitude of the terrain until you see it all at once like this. 

There is no real stand-out section that is hardest, but it's the overall pounding and frequency of ups and downs.  If I were to choose the most challenging section today it would probably be the 5 mile stretch in the Wilderness Area, because of its remoteness, being 38 miles deep, and a tighter and denser trail.
