Afternoon Ride

77 riders from the South Bay and beyond joined each other in Davenport for an epic 77-mile ride along the coast and through the mountains of San Mateo County, including parts of the AIDS/Lifecycle, Day 1 route. 







I spent the day riding with some old and some new friends, and it was a great time.  This is one of the most beautiful rides we do, and today was exceptional. It started of overcast and cold, but turned into a beautiful sunny day.  Today's route only had 11 turns, 4 stop signs, and one stop light (twice). Highlights included a stop at Archangeli Bakery in Pescadero for warm Garlic Artichoke Bread,  Lunch in La Honda, and several good climbs with amazing views and awesome downhills.  We rode past lost of farmland with lots of horses, sheep, llama's, and sadly, one dead doe on the side of the road.







On the way down the Pescadero Climb we saw a few dozen Team In Training (Leukemia) riders, out on their own training ride. Unfortunatley I came across a down rider. Luckily Monica wasn't hurt and was just badly shaken. She was basically going too slow to stay upright on her climb and fell over. Also luckily, she fell into soft shoulder with a bed of leaves. After making use she was in no pain and had no injuries, and she was on her feet, their sweep car drove up, and I recommended she ditch the climb and stop riding until she was fully relaxed and feeling normal. I left her in good hands and continued my on journey.  







The tailwinds for the last 30 miles were fantastic. I can't wait for ALC.  Next week it's the Return to Tahoe.
