You can tell I've been putting this one off by the fact i got the penultimate Bavarian parkrun back in May. But finally, after many attempts where either me or the run cancelled with like a day's notice, I was here and barcode scanning it again. Quarter past five alarm, train that stopped at Mausheim 🐁, half hour walk through the town from memory with no mobile data because my phone's being stupid. 

Got there. I'd already gotten the vibe that this ruin was a very close knit community one with about 25 regulars and rarely anyone else, and this was confirmed when they made a big deal of announcing the two faces they didn't recognise, myself and a guy from Norway who was 'just passing through'. During the first timer briefing for me and Norway man they explained that it was a complicated looking course but they had tiny orange arrow signs permanently fixed to some posts to try and help us.

I'd seen on results that this course has one guy who does it in like 18 minutes every week and indeed when I set off I was second and trying to keep this guy in eyeshot as long as possible. This worked for a bit, then I was on the orange arrows and only had one moment where I stopped to make sense of the instructions because the paths crossed (look at the orange line ffs). Some other lad overtook me and I was in third for the rest of the course. Dead vole on the path aside, this was a lovely route - and Bavaria would have felt incomplete without a lifesize statue of Jesus on the cross on the route. Second lap I was mostly ok from memory except one bit where I stopped and asked the lady behind me where to go. Got in in 22:17 which is again slower than it could be but also nobody seemed to want to be scanned for a good few minutes after I got in, easy scanning job, a local took the tokens off me for his own volunteer credit - worth noting that this entire setup only had one volunteer not running which was pretty cool. The lady just behind me was pushing a baby who then wandered around the finish area for 35 minutes. 

Anyway, lovely little community, worth the long trip. That's Bavaria done and also every parkrun you can do as a day trip on the free public transport from Munich. I can finally move out...
