NYC half marathon-59:15, 2nd place. 
Started the race well. The group was pretty big the first mile, and the first uphill made it tough. Mile 2 also had a difficult uphill. At mile 3, I knew the downhill was steep and felt the tailwind, so I pushed to whittle the pack down. There were four close together(Hillary Bor, Abel Kipchumba, Patrick Dever and myself) with Wesley Kiptoo about 8 meters behind. I would occasionally get behind Abel the first five miles, and sometimes push to make the pack smaller. At mile 6 we were on sub-59 pace, and I was feeling good. Not long after fatigue began to settle in, and every mile was a little harder than the last. At mile 6 we had dropped Wesley, and about mile 7 Patrick began to fade. I stuck behind Hillary and let Abel do most of the leading. Abel would try to drop us by running to the side and surging so we couldn’t draft off him. At 15k I was behind Hillary and slightly to the side and clipped Hillary pretty bad and he almost went down. After he got his balance back, he made sure I was okay and didn’t fall myself, which was super kind of him. He’s one of the kindest competitors I know. 
Around mile 10, Hillary began to fade and encouraged me to go with Abel. Around 10.6 or so, Abel began to surge harder than normal and zig zag ahead of me. I followed for a while, but couldn’t maintain much. After that I tried to keep pace and stay close enough to catch him. I stayed close enough, but that was all I could do today. He ran an incredible race, pushing into the wind for most of it. 
I turned around after finishing and watched Hillary run under 60 minutes and finish 3rd.
