Holy shit that was tough

This is the First Stage Race 2014 double of 3. First and foremost the support was outstanding for The 20th Annual Ride, the temps were cold to warm but never HOT, the WINDS were howling once we got to the coast. The climbing was all over the board in the percent’s, we saw them as high as 20 and many sustainability 7-10 %.  I had a tough first 50 miles, my legs were on fire and I was uncomfortable getting out of the saddle, but once I got warmed up I was having a beautiful day, the views at the coast were breathless. Last year John Clare and I rode the lower course and the coast was all fogged in. It was a pleasure to not only ride on the tandem with my BRO-RoHo “Energizer Bunny” but to have John Clare (we did 8 doubles in2013) ride with us for all but 60 miles of the ride.  Not only did we finish the highland Stage Race as the second and final tandem team that got through the cut off time limit for the highland course but this double was my 50th double. Yes, 50 doubles ridden, John Hopkins wife was there with John and she heard that it was my 50th and she went out and bought me a cake and a balloon. I am so honored to be in such a elite group of Ultra Endurance riders.
