135km on a fairly hilly terrain, and after I saw some big names on the start list my hopes to win faded away. 2 years ago I almost won it after making my race way harder as I had to go all in at the neutral start to catch the front. It was the first real hot day for me, I had 2 bottles full of CH but had no one to give me new ones.

The neutral start was faster and ended earlier than I expected. I could make it to the very front until Tihany, luckily the pace wasn't that high. I already felt my mouth dry, that was not a good sign definitely. Until the long first climb nothing major happened, the pace on the climb was pretty easy until the last steep km where 2 minutes at 555w barely enough to stay with the front group of 6, but not much later 30-40 people came together. About 10 mins later I made an attempt, then soon again tried to go into a breakaway without success. Zárat got a small gap, I think he didn't even attacked, and a Cube guy and the winner joined him. That was the moment I knew I facked up *insert Morgen Freeman voice*. For about 15 mins I tried to force people into pulling but not much luck. It was frustrating as even teams were in our group. After the downhill of Vigántpetend, people started to pull, but for a while I rest at the back. We were close -one guy from Green Riders could even jump across- but last last pull was always missing. Eventually someone from Italy attacked and it made it a whole. Now we could expect counter attacks, there were a couple, but healthy one formed by Szarka Gergő, a Cube guy ( sry they look all the same to me ) and me. Our biggest gap could have been around 30seconds but eventually (also messed up a roundabout) we got caught. I wasn't empty but it was hard to catch the back, because Kardos Csongor (Cube ( I can only recognize him) did plenty of attacks but the terrain wasn't ideal for him. Until Köveskál ( km 93) I was just sitting in the pack but then as we were getting closer to the climb of Monoszló I started to feel that, okay I am tired but everyone else too. It was somewhat easy to follow the attacks. At the climb I have found myself in a group of 5, one Cube rider and 3 foreigner. We almost made to the top when Kardos attacked through the gap, the winner Italian could hold his wheel and they rode away, we didn't see them ever again. I didn't even try to go with him. From then I was expecting bigger battle at Óbudavár climb, I made it with the front but we couldn't drop too many people. From now on I really wanted to attack, but too many people had team mates in our group of ~15. So I played for the sprint which was a bad decision. My plan was to get into position 1-2 km from the finish on a 4 lane wide road. Instead we were lead into a narrow service lane, then got back into the main road where we barely had one lane. I knew I facked up. I was keen to do a long sprint but that never happened. 
Oh and 2 bottles were barely enough 😅 
And the only thing I left at home is the HR strap...

This is again a race where I made bad decisions, pulled probably more than I should, but it is what it is. At least no one drafted cars today :)
