Interesting idiom in this edition of The Sunday Chug: hair of the dog. The sociolinguists insist the phrase comes from ye olde timey remedies for things like rabies, where dog hair was used in some treatments (don’t tell RFK - bro will recommend it). The philologists insist the idiom is broader and simply indicates that the cause of an ailment can also be its cure (think antivenin derived from snake venom). Defo has a “double, double, toil and trouble, fire burn and cauldron bubble”vibe about it, though. Hair of the dog, eye of the newt.. you get the drift. Whatever the origin, WebMD insists that drinking alcohol does NOT in fact cure a hangover. 

Not sure what medical science has to say about absolutely smashing miles and miles of fresh chonk chonk after riding hard the day prior, but who cares amIright? Sometimes it’s fun to go deep. Which was easy to do today on a fantastic route designed by Jared Gab, who elected to adhere to so called “doctors” “kinesiologists” and “common sense” and NOT ride today after absolutely crushing and winning the Paratandem category in Unbound 200 along with 🦮👨‍🦯‍➡️Tim Hornik, Blind Athlete, B1  - who finished his FIFTH Unbound. Our other fearless leader Hannah Glatter - who finished 11th in an absolutely stacked field for the Unbound XL (that’s 359 miles, folks) - also said to hell with dog hairs and wisely got some rest.

But for the folks who bought the folk wisdom, today was a cracker. A large group (my non-scientific census counted 53) made our way to the SAG stop manned by none other than the Sunflower Outdoor and Bike Shop dream team - Matt Gilhousen (who literally just finished crewing for riders at Unbound) and Laura Wagner  (THANK YOU, ROCKSTARS). After fueling up, a large bullet train left the station, but the heat, hills, fresh gravel, and pace whittled it down and by the end, a group of six worked together to bring us home. Huge thanks to Logan Swenson, Jason Chase - Move Up Cycling Club, Nate Mattson, James Moes and Steve  Songer  -   Vandoit Racing for the pulls in the heat. Made for a fun and fast ride... I'm rejecting the whole "hair of the dog" thing for mañana though.
