Oh my, we did it again! 🫢
The process and the outcome of this year’s race was a reflection of how well I felt before the race, despite coming off a short training block after a complicated Transvulcania Ultra Race that left some uncertainty in me about whether I’m not pushing my body too much, being on the brink of blowing up. Now I can—and I have to—believe that feeling good in training and having good training while also just being kinda happy is okay, and allowing two worlds to coexist opens up something… new and better!

Since I felt very good, I decided that it would be foolish not to give it a go and improve my previous course record. And the goal was just to improve the time by anything from one second, taking it lap by lap, holding as consistent a pace as possible. I had no excuses from the logistics and planning side, as we had a solid plan we executed to the last squeeze of gel, sip of water with electrolyte mix, and sodium pill as a cherry on top—to have energy and processes working in my body to the best of our knowledge! I think that going up from 90g of carbs/h to 105g/h of Maurten gels per less than an hour was a safe increase from the previous year, also increasing sodium intake to 900mg/h and taking in 1.5L of water per hour. I took everything in to the last pill and sip, and my body coped with all of that fuel while working in consistent high intensity.

I was expecting to have difficulties and limitations where I would have to push through a higher amount of pain, and this time it only came in the middle of the 10th lap, where my muscles ran out of resources while my heart still kept going strong! Very late in the race, which is pretty much the scenario I would have wished for—and from there, the last 3 laps were a fight for the time and teamwork with my body to bring the best result I can across the line for myself and all the people who were there to not only support but who were directly part of it!

As always, thanks to my mum and dad who were there to support through smiles and worries, and Elina Baltskara  who left me speechless with how well she managed to execute the plan and fill the gaps that gave me smiles every lap and beyond!

As always—thanks to everyone who cheered not only on the side of the Werewolf trail but also to everyone who was there in the race that we did together, not against each other! Congrats to everyone who tried and finished—you are remarkable, and that is how we create this unique atmosphere that only can be felt being in the forest! 🌲🐺

I will come back every year if my health allows it, and going under 4h still remains my life-long goal of this race—and I’m in no rush to achieve it! See you in the forest of Ourside!
