Full moon ramble 🌕

‍ Today we entered our fifth and final country of the trip: Belgium! 

While we thankfully no longer had to deal with blistering hot temps in the 90s and brutal sun, the drop in temperature came along with some pretty serious rain clouds today. We battled stiff headwinds for most of the day and pedaled through the biggest rain showers we've encountered so far. Of course we're prepared for some weather and our rain jackets held up just fine. I'm testing out a new jacket from Gorewear and it did the trick today.

We had three great historic building ridebys today: Belvédère de Saint Donat, Chateau de Villemont, and Château du Faing.

The current section of the trip is designed as a connection between two different eurovelo routes, essentially spanning a stretch between the Saar and the Meuse rivers. Our top two destinations for the trip were the Black Forest and the French Ardennes. However, no existing route connects the two of these locations, even though they're not that far apart geographically. So, I plotted the route for the three or so days in the middle here to bridge the gap between these two major areas.

So far, the riding has overall been fantastic with rural country roads and plenty of bike paths to keep us out of traffic. I spent a ton of time on planning, and it seems to have paid off!
