I DID IT!!! 🙌🏽😭

Lassen Picnic is officially an established mtn triathlon. Solo / unsupported 💪🏽

Here's what it is. Start at the north entrance into Lassen National Park. I started and finished at the Manzanita Lake sign at the guard shack (see photos). 

From there I started my watch and ran down to the shore and swam across the lake. It was cold. 

I had my bike and hiking gear waiting for me on the other side of the lake. I transitioned there and then began the bike up to Lassen Peak parking lot. Lots of snow, epic meadows, and spring water fill ups along the way. Nature's perfection. 

Transitioned at the parking lot and began the hike up to summit Lassen. There was a lot of snow which made the route tricky in some spots. Had to scramble up steep rock around the snow. 

Heart rate was higher than I preferred. Stomach wasnt too happy for most of the hike. Definitely had to push through. Maybe I was not fully recovered from Shasta Bally. Anyway, summited and ran down fast. Stoked to have done the Lassen hike / run sub 2 hrs. Just barely. 

Transitioned back to the bike and went hard and fast on the descent back to Manzanita Lake. That was fun. Body started to feel it especially the last climb before the lake. 

Got back and was pretty tired but had the final swim back to the starting point. When I got to the other side, both legs cramped really bad. I couldn't stand up or walk. Some how I pushed through that and hand cramps along the way. Kinda scary. 

Finished it. I think this is the first ever Lassen Picnic. It's now an established route. So go do it!! Really fun adventure in the mtns. 

Also part of the road was closed to cars which made the bike ride even better. Definitely one of my all time favorite bike rides. It's gorgeous up there.
