The Kinsman’s but in April

How am I expected to summarize everything? The first section from RR to Pinkham went very well despite the heat and being drenched in sweat. Arrived at pinkham 45 mins ahead of schedule. I decided to make this effort a multisport activity and stopped for a brief 0.001 mi swim in the Peabody River after crossing. It really helped prep me for the heinous osgood climb, by cleaning my body of sweat and helping to drop my body temp. At Madison spring I slammed my knee into a rock hidden by trees that gave me a good spook. I was worried it wouldn’t hold for 70 more miles but she did. The wind picked up during my evening Washington summit and Lakes presented a beautiful sunset. I moved pretty quick down the southern presis but the Webster cliff descent took painfully long. At Crawford I took a 30 min nap and woke up with a slug on my neck. In the dark, I made quick work of Ethan pond and the twinway section. I was excited to be in the pemi but it was beginning to get challenging. The Garfield climb was long and drawn out (ofc) but still had decent climbing legs. Lafayette was a similar story. Coming down lib springs I passed John Kelly & co. He looks to be tired but is still moving smoothly. At the lib/flume junction I noticed the sign violently swaying in the wind, I grabbed the sign and noticed that my mind had started playing tricks on me. A brief rain at 93 worried me about the last section but luckily it held off. Lonesome was a madhouse and the kinsman’s were quiet. Descending off the backsides of the kinsman’s, I started to fall into a routine of crashing, then cruising, then crashing, the cruising. I handled Mt Wolf but the 5 miles after it took so long. There was a theme of long drawn out descents. Finally at beaver brook, I ignored the suggestion of Lucas and Kristian to sleep. I thought I could handle the final climb and get down to glencliff without sleep. I was incredibly wrong. The climb up beaver brook truly kicked my teeth in. I was struggling with balance, strength in my legs and was beginning to loose mental strength. In states of sleep deprivation, I will sometimes hear voices in the sounds of moving water. Soooo that was annoying. After a long drawn out climb, I was still struggling to move towards the Moosilauke summit. I dropped  shit ton of time here. After an absolutely nessecary 10 min nap, I coached myself into digging deeper and getting to south peak. Visibility near the summit proved to be challenging. At the south peak junction, for the first time, I was confident that I was going to make it happen but not without hammering in my knees for one last descent. Through this whole effort I was able to produce a running pace if terrain was easy enough and that helped in finish the last few  flatter miles. At route 25, Lucas Robdau met me with home made pepperoni pizza, ice water and the other essentials. I didn’t really feel any sort of excitement after finishing which was likely due to how shot my brain was.

Although this effort was unsupported, the support that Lucas Robdau provided, truly made this possible at all. He arranged for us to stay in gorham with his friend Stuart, on the night before start to capitalize on sleep. He both dropped me off and picked me up, but also provided me so much support through the form of texts.
