After an initial adrenaline burst up Moriah wore off, this got ugly.  Was still feeling okay-ish when I got to Carter Notch, but I should’ve seen the writing on the wall after a couple of sloooow miles in the approach and things changed drastically from there.  Even the Chris Dailey sighting and hearing about his PresiCats loop wasn’t enough to get things headed in the right direction for my stomach. Nausea was ever-present from about 4.5 hours in and while there were some ebbs and flows to it, every time I tried to start moving a more normal pace it flared up again.  Tried to troubleshoot it multiple ways: focus on breathing, more water, only basic solid foods, etc.; but the only thing that provided any relief was keeping the heart rate down by slowing the pace.  My theory is that I overcooked the amount of drink mix in the first pair of refill bottles and fried my stomach, which couldn’t recover thereafter. Lesson learned: no more ‘eyeing it.’  Kept going, despite the snail’s pace, for another 11 hours hoping I could push through it eventually and just get the route done to see the whole thing; however, the winds picked up as I passed Jefferson and I knew I was already hours behind where I should’ve been at that point with the sun going down so I called it there.  Disappointed to not go the full distance.  Excited about the learnings around my gear setup.  Grateful to have friends to turn to for advice on managing through obstacles.  Glad I (ultimately) made the right decision to get off trail and not become a ranger rescue story.  Yesterday just wasn’t the day!

Maybe it’s time I start a competing category called Slowest Known Time? Anyone would have a hard time competing with me for this honor yesterday. 🥇
