Updated report:
A very extremely tiring day out there in mountains. Started at 4am after spending the night at Carter. I thought this would give me the most daylight opportunity having Nineteen Mile Brook Trail in the dark and Great Gulf Trail as well which are fairly easy going. Made good time up to Madison in 2h18m from Carter. I thought I'd be up to Madison in 3hrs. So already was up 40min on my projected splits I gave myself. Didn't spend much time here, Sierra the HM gave me a cookie and some Gatorade. Hiked most of the way to Lakes until I got to Crawford Path/Westside intersection then ran down into Lakes in a 1hr 54m from Madison. Lakes fill in Croo was super awesome, invited me in and fed me cinnamon rolls and some juice. Crawford path from Lakes to Mizpah flew by in an 1h8m. Spent about 20 minutes here talking with Patrick one of the Croo members who also worked for RMC a couple years ago. Super awesome Croo at Mizpah, cranberry lemonade was so good! Made it to Crawford Notch where I spent another 20 minutes 10 waiting for Elizabeth and 10 chatting and slowly resupplying fuel! It was probably the best 10 minutes of the whole effort honestly. I was in a mental hole at that point before getting to Crawford. I think knowing that I was only about a third of the way done with the climbing and still had about 22 miles to go until Lonesome. It took me a couple minutes to get out of that headspace and keep pushing forward. Ran into Josiah Conley on the A-Z trail, we ran all the way to Zealand together probably about 3 miles or so. I then stopped at Zealand and chatted with some of the fill in Croo there too and chugged blueberry lemonade out of a big pitcher! 10 minutes killed here! It took me 2h36m to get to Zealand from Mizpah which all considering the two 20 minute full stops isn't terrible. From Zealand to Galehead was hot. It was now mid day and Twinway is more exposed than I remember it being last time I had done it. 2h6m later I got to Galehead, the Croo there was so stoked to see me and motivated me to keep pushing harder and harder! More lemonade here as well. So much lemonade on this Hutty T! I was having the Croo's call ahead to the next hut so they knew I was coming through, and it was cool getting to the later stages of the effort where people have been listening all day and finally see me and are so stoked! Galehead to Greenleaf in 2h45m which felt pretty good all considering. I was trying to mentally prepare for this section all day, constantly thinking about it and how much it is going to suck. But honestly it wasn't as bad as I had anticipated. Pounded a caffeine gel at the bottom of Garfield climb and another one halfway up the Lafayette climb. Definitely seemed to work a little bit. Still learning the whole caffeine strategy and process. Quickly made a quick stop at Greenleaf filled some water wrote in the log book and doused myself with water before sending it all the way to Lonesome. At this point I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to go sub 14 but if it was going to happen it would be super close. 14:30 was a goal I had about halfway through the effort that seemed possible if I was really going for it. Doing the math in my head while hauling ass down OBP came up with a couple numbers and tried my best to stick to that pace of sub 15 minutes. Cramped once on the way down chugged my electrolytes and pounded another gel with about 2 miles to go. I power hiked all the up the climb to Lonesome only running the last .5 miles to the hut. I knew if I did this at about a 20min pace and ran the last .5 in about 5 minutes or less sub 14 would be possible. That's exactly what happened, I figured hiking consistently was faster than running little bits and then slowing down and becoming over tired. Greenleaf to Lonesome in 1h6m to close out a Hutty T! The Croo at Lonesome was so awesome, another quart of Lemonade and some fried rice. Took a dip in the lake and then made my way back down to FNSP.
