What an experience🫶🏼the event itself is just next level, the support on the side of the road is like you are actually doing the Tour de France! 
💥there was a crash about 5km in, I dropped my bottle and had to ration water for the next 50km, not ideal! I found myself chasing tails on the Voland climb but made it to the front group! I put a little dig in over the top of the mountain and broke away on the first part of the descent with 2 others, we didn’t get too far though. Charlie donned her hero’s cape and handed me up a bottle at the bottom of Saises, legend, it was much needed. The Pre was the hardest climb of the day, I was yo-yoing out of the front group for the 7km 9% section but as luck would have it it all came together for the decent in to the Resivour. I had my first of two Alp Cycles private feeds there. Big shoutout to those guys, I wouldn’t be able to stay with the front group for as long as I did without them, check them out for your next event trip! 
🎯I was climbing super well all day, with the front group of 10 at the top of the penultimate climb of the Cormet before making a little mistake at the back of the group on the final few bends before the fast run in to Bourg. Kicking myself for the error as I’d ridden so well to be in contention and then had to ride the valley solo, whilst being able to see the group just 40s ahead. They hit the final climb together and I just TTd it home, albeit the wheels started coming off in the final 7km. I think the altitude and fatigue just started to get to me there. All in all I’m well chuffed with that performance alongside some of the best Fondo riders in the biz. In summary, I don’t think I could have done much more, in hindsight my heat training payed off, I felt like I was climbing better than I ever have over these distances and elevation but I didn’t do enough “hard rides” with intensity at the back end. Always good to have stuff to keep working on. Look out for the video on YT! (Great to meet one or two fans of the channel out on the road too!)
