I call this my Pemi revenge. Eight years ago I did a 2-day CCW Pemi with my wife and could barely hobble out at the end with several doses of ibuprofen. Eight years later, I completed two laps in 1 day and finished on the run! Still feel pretty wrecked (-:

Lap 1 was absolutely stunning. The 3:45 am start got me up to the top of Flume in time to see the morning glow begin in the East, and then watch it grow into a full sunrise as I tackled the ridge. Felt strong most of the way, although my climbing could be faster. The 8:52 for lap 1 was approaching my target time of 8:00, but gave me pause about going for lap 2

I stopped at the van to wash up, change clothes, eat lunch (amazing lamb stew!), and decide if I had another lap in me (this was far from certain). The 35 min break was long but felt great.

Lap 2 was where things started to get real. Headed up Osseo, my HR started spiking--so I had to figure out how to back off but still get the most out of my pace. Garfield ridge was bad on lap 1, but much worse on lap 2. Kept thinking about how in the world Jordan Fields could run this stuff! I pulled into Galehead Hut when the staff was midway through their evening skit for their overnight crowd. Everyone got quiet and looked at me as I tried to sneak past--then they started chanting "speech". I had no speech in me. I had to dig deep for the climb up South Twin, but that was the last major hurdle so my spirits improved as I passed Guyot, Bond, and Bondcliff. I also knew at that point the FKT was achievable if I could stay upright on the descent.

Lap 1 with Hoka Speedgoat 6's - not as much cushion as I would have liked and slipped around more than I expected. The Mafate 4's really hit the spot for Lap 2. Cushion was enough to make my feet feel better for 2nd lap than 1st!
