08/12/25: slow climbs - Portishead, UK

1. Set off with Alan aiming to pace him to 3:40-3:45’. Alas, his legs called time on him at mile 12;
2. Mi 12-16: obeying Alan’s instructions (and it was too sudden a struggle early doors to do owt else, as his 4:35’51” time ultimately proved), ran in search of someone else to run with / pace;
3. Mi 17-18: having bumped into the Caistor Tutu Crew, ran with them for a while, until Mike’s pacees began to struggle;
4. Mi 18-end: obeying Mike, again ran off in search of someone else... and soon found Andy, who’d been on track for sub-3:30’ at the halfway point before his hamstring decided otherwise. Stuck with him to the end, walkin’ an’all. Glad I was able to help him, even if we didn’t quite break 3:50’. 

A great event. Heat not as bad as anticipated. I love it, but I need to consider how to approach it to ensure I never question the value of the 18-hr round trip during Ultraseason training and the related costs. I have some thoughts, but need to sleep on them. In the meantime, great to help Andy get a PB, great to see Mick PB, great to see Luke join The Marathon Runners’ Club, nice to get in some nippy bits...
...and, last and least, I can think of plenty of worse runs to seal back-to-back 100mi weeks.
