morning started when marnie returned from club exactly when my alarm went off. Steamier weather than expected on the way to train, launched off from Starbucks (grand depart) with the intention to get a gap on the road section before inevitably losing it on the trails. First trail section kept the gap before a wrong turn ate up my advance. Then got quite a bit lost, ended up popping out of the system right behind Jono and Nadav who I never totally caught back up with. Traced some roads I had hit on High Point ride a few weeks ago so felt a bit familiar with the area. Ramapo lake was absolutely breathtaking, would have hit harder had the legs been fresher but a lot of trundling and doodling around, learning more and more about mtb each ride out. Brief refuel before hitting skyline. Ringwood was even better, flowy trails, extremely fun. Some berms!! The route promise of each trail getting better flow was true as written, with Sterling being the peak. Beautiful trail system and apart from a dropped chain and some BB clicking the Hutchinson descent was perfect as can be. Drizzle started coming down on Hogback, continued throughout the rest of the ride. Soaktown. Noticed seatpost topper had been slipping from the hits, stopped a bit on the way up Harriman to rectify, got a “ride on” from an old head on a tri bike as I overtook him on 7 lakes, taunted at by a prehistoric bird before hitting the last climb on pine meadow road. Snowmobile boulder field descent by a sizzling transformer. Realized I was at 6:57 elapsed with a mile to go, some quick mental math assumed I could hit sub 7 at the finish. Total elapsed: 6:59:47.
no otb, but some tilt overs (sideways only).

Saw: one ashen grey deer (face to face). numerous small critters. Wild pheasant. Wild grouse (???). Picture perfect bear poop pile right in center of trial, as they are wont to do. a very avian heavy day all said and done.

I've picked up an unfortunate habit of making lots of tiny stops, checking route elevation and progress. Definitely a behavior borrowed from some of the this years hikes. Too much data. Could have shaved a chunk out of elapsed by keeping the head down, but enjoyed these moments overall.

Route is incomparably smooth compared to Round Up. Which is to say it has no multiple mile long hike-a-bike sections and it has decidedly more than 30 seconds of flowy trail.
