Toughest ride of the trip!
We had the cable car booked for 16:00, so I had to take a lift for the last 3 km — but still climbed 2,500+ m myself (maybe “cheated” on the last 250 😉). Ignore KOMs!

Last time I rode Teide was in 2019, in much better shape — 10k km that year, spring camp in Málaga, a few races. Climbed from the west and north back then: smooth 4–5 %, rarely 6 %.

The south side is brutal — constant 5–6 %, long 8–9 % ramps, and scorching heat. Add the usual headwind from the north, and it’s a real sufferfest. My power dropped to 100–120 W, crawling at 5 km/h with plenty of stops.

Called my wife to pick me up for the last forested 3 km so we wouldn’t miss the cable car. Reached the lot destroyed, switched to hiking gear triathlon-style, and went up to 3,500 m.

If it’s your first Teide climb — go west. It may lack drama, but it leaves you wanting more.
