6x3 minutes hard, 1 minute recovery

All went smoothly today. 

Went to the front within the first kilometre and found my own rhythm from there. 

Found that the steady gradient between 10-15% suited me well. Can never totally get into your own rhythm on this course because the way the race works is that the quickest runners start last, so you pass everyone on the way up. 

Positives and negatives to that. The positive is that I got so much encouragement from everyone else which kept me positive and focusing on being in the moment. But it meant I couldn’t quite push at full intensity. Probably why my heart rate remained reasonable low and I never felt like I was straining. 

The last 3km or so of the race was very different. It became very rocky again, especially along the ridge line at the top. But I handled it ok today apart from a minor directional issue with around 1.5km to go. 

Overall an enjoyable race and the lower sections through the lush rainforest filled with the sounds of lyrebirds were a particular highlight. Also was nice to see snow up close for the first time on a run.

9 CRs was a nice bonus too
