Kumano Kodo Day 1 of 3 on the Pilgrimage Trail

My first day on the famous Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage route, only 1 of 2 officially designated pilgrimages, the sister route is the famous Camino de Santiago. From Takijiri the elevation gain was a bit of a shock, but less tough than the Fundy Footpath so it was all do-able. Power-hike the ascents, run the plateaus and the descents. I’m doing this route to solidly the logistics for the 2026 Kumano Kodo and Kyoto running retreat, with Aire Libre. It’s going to a lot of fun!
