So close and yet ... so very far away. Absolutely drilled past my "normal" limits today as I vowed with all my strength to stay with the lead group over the first climb up Fox Hill. Stayed on - dangling at back, but still on - leaders until the very top. Suddenly, 3 second gap. The descent started and ... there was no chasing back on, try as I might. 20+ seconds by the time the road flattened out again. I guess I have to expect this when racing a climber's course in the advanced field. Riders pushed 6+ w/kg all the way up like it was a walk in the park. Believe it or not, I still thoroughly enjoyed pushing myself to the brink like this. Onward.
