This was an exercise in discipline and persistence. Cash prizes for first place always bring out the random fast young athletes. Was chasing 1st place the whole first lap, 15 seconds behind, pace was too hot for me. Second lap he put 40 seconds in total on me during that circuit.

I just told myself to run my race and not to count myself out in the third lap. I felt pretty good and maintained really well since I was disciplined in lap 2. The kid in 1st started to melt with 3 miles to go, in that mile I bridged the gap of 40 seconds and caught him with 2 miles to go.

put in a big sprint, gapped him immediately and kept drilling the pace all the way home. I think he gave up and I beat him by several minutes. Good day, now for baby snuggles at home.
