Utterly sketchy Mellor and Rowarth meander

A good loop for testing the core stability and the extent of grip on the shoes.. irocks held up pretty well overall, performing best on the harder, more compacted sections. A very calm pleasant loop, still air overall apart from the windy section coming off Lantern Pike and on the shay. A good test for the lungs in the cold starting pretty much with a straight climb from the reservoir to Lantern Pike summit, always a good workout and an extra test keeping the pace going in the snow / slush once further up. Something a bit flatter and quicker for a time on the bridleway, then originally intending to cut through the field to the path by the Old Mill Pond before I noticed cattle in the field as I crossed the wall, which was a surprise! Instead went straight down to the bottom of the lane, along the bridleway to the stream crossing and turned right up the footpath to the houses. The footpath field was thankfully much less muddy compared to the last time I went on it. Continued up the fields to the cross-paths below Cown Edge, treated to a barn owl foraging in the field.. sublime! Bit dicey coming back down in the slippery snow into Rowarth... care was taken. Nice to go back via the fields to the shay which I haven't done for ages, always a good testing little climb that one out of the valley. Much easier running from there back along the bridleway and extending by going via Feeding Hey Farm and High Wall's Farm, where the snow cover became almost non-existent. A nice cherished daylight run, ticking over nicely.
