Lunch Ride

Yesterday was a good day, today was just EPIC!

Riding through Barra in the morning was just beautiful. Lovely island and great single track roads with nice smooth tarmac.

Up through the Uist was equally good, nice roads again. A bit of a tailwind meant I got to the ferry a couple of hours before it set sail. Pretty flat terrain through the island as well.

Harris was as dramatic as expected. Undulating terrain and clouds over the hills were impressive, not to mention the beaches! Kept going around each corner and needing to stop for another photo. A beautiful beef curry at Croft 36 was welcome.

The climb heading across the middle of the island was unexpectedly hard, with a crosswind adding to the challenge. A nice descent into Tarbert followed by which time I was getting a bit nervous about the climb ahead...

The climb up Ardhasaig and the Clisham is a real challenge and hits you with the steapest parts right at the beginning. With 90 miles in my legs at this stage it was a bit of a grind in my lowest gear, but I enjoyed it once the gradient eased.

Then the final stretch through Lewis is fairly uneventful but the little lumps start to feel mountainous after 100 miles. I was all out of supplies and water by the time I reached Luirbost so was delighted to find a garage still open. Top up of water and bottle of coke gave me the boost I needed for the last 5 miles.

Only bad part of the day was losing a water bottle waiting for the ferry in Uist. The wind blew it over behind a bin when I was filling up and I couldn't retrieve it. Annoying but managed to make do.
