‍This was an excellent route. Save for the following:

1) Most of the uphill was a muddy mess. The kind of stick-to-your-boots kind of mud that makes the trail slippery, and also adds a few pounds to your load as you go along.

2) Traffic noise from I-215 carries all the way up the mountain forever keeping you in touch with humanity.

3) The air quality was horrific denying any scenic views (although, the sunset had a grotesque beauty).

Luckily, we went about this trail-collecting loop the right way. We all got caked in mud on the way up. By dropping straight down through Crestwood Gulch we were extremely fortunate. We had a chance to clean off our lower extremities as we hiked down the sheltered drainage with plenty of snow.

I'm glad I took my spikes and hiking poles. Otherwise, I'd have been a complete head-to-toe mess by the time we returned to the car. We skipped a couple of segments that we'll have to go back for. Too muddy/steep/icy/indistinct, and we ran out of daylight.
