Watching Kipchoge break the Marathon worldrecord, this morning almost made me miss my race. I underestimated how difficult it could be to cross the route of the Marathon twice on the way to the venue. So when I got out of the city I had to timetrial all the way to make it just 5mins to the start remaining. Just enough time to put the number and transponder on and off we went.
The speed of this Mol cup crit really surprised me, the average for the 18 laps was 44.3 km/h
I was able to recover from my outbound journey through Berlin by mid race and got involved in the action in the final 5 laps. Starting the sprint right after the final curve must have surprised a few, but kept me out of trouble. No need to say that a few people passed me an the final 100m, but admittedly I have never sprinted that badly ever before, so still in the top ten is a good result for me.
