first place on a 60 km solo breakaway.  Just hit it from the gun.  96 km ride down just before the start of the race with Northcliff but really very easy ride where I sat on the back.  I really did front load the race more than I should have if it were a real time trial but I think it was the way to do it, just to put distance and time in on the chasers.  At the turn around I estimate Jason Oosthuizen and Martin of Northcliff seemed to only be like maybe 800 m to a km behind.  I was really afraid that once they turned and it was all into the head wind that these two power riders would catch me. ( It was tail wind out and head wind back as usual), However, Martin punctured.  Jason was left on his own and finished well by coming in solo for 2nd place. The workers there said he was a good 4 min behind me at the finish but I don't know.  I think had Martin not punctured we could have seen a different result. and there was talk of trying to get Kent Main to join in on this Northcliff adventure, certainly if he had shown up, we would have had a totally different result.  Just want to keep track of kit:  no aero bottles due to no time to swap them in,  caffeine and the works for race nutrition, 80's front and back, shoe covers, evade Road helmet, skin suit with some very uncomfortable and perhaps bulgy spares and pump in the no pinz pocket, and the usual aero tape gallore. 23 C gp4000 front 25C gp 4000 rear. butyl tubes. (yuck! but this tire and tube combo is as risky as I'd like to get especially given I have to ride there and back).
