Weather forecast called for no rain.  Merry Christmas!  It rained anyway.  But not before I made the ferry from Xiamen to Zhangzhou, and took on two of the biggest assents of the ride, about 100m each.  I rode the first one, but couldn't handle the second, or any subsequent hills of note.  It felt good to get off and walk and I've now found  walking a useful technique for muscle soreness: take the weight off your butt for five minutes but maintain your forward momentum.  Rain started in earnest at about the 40k mark and got worse as the day continued -- until I arrived at the hotel.  Just like that, it stopped.  Lots of craziness on the road, including pockmarked streets, one section of road seemingly washed out (or washed over with silt), and idiot drivers going too fast in the rain.  I was worried yesterday that I couldn't do this, but even in the rain I did.  Should sleep well tonight.
