Race #11 in 12 weeks. This was a nocturnal relay race, in which I was the last runner out of five runners whom I did not know very well.

I basically just sprinted the whole thing, and it hurt so much that at one point my legs went numb. I had caught up to one guy and passed him at the eastern turnaround, but he sat on my shoulder on the homestretch. I was hurting so much and then–BOOM–with 400m to go, he passed me. I held on to the finish and just as I was crossing the line–BOOM–some other dude sprints and finishes 0.00001 second in front of me.

I later found out that I had been in third place but after the two dudes passed me, my team ended up fifth overall.

I don't understand how people somehow have that little bit of extra capacity for suffering in battle, my lack of which has cumulatively cost me so many places this year. Maybe it's my lack of speedwork which not only makes me faster but also teaches me to suffer. I need to work on this.
