My third go at Belgian Waffle Ride was a blast. I flatted and had a lackluster 2017, I finished 2nd last year in a hard fought sprint, and here in year three I finished 3rd which I'm thrilled with. It's looking like the Vermont training plan (ride less, ski more, and have a lot more fun throughout) is going to plan. I'm pretty sure this is my longest ride of 2019 and probably longest since DK 2018. The race shook out as expected -- a massive starting group all funneling into the first section which is going to be hairy. From there, the 1000 people become 100, then 50, then 20, then we went into the final section as 5. 2 guys crashed/flatted out and Eddie put in a gap. Pete and I chased with all our might (mind you, I'm 6 hours in at this point and not feeling my most chipper), caught Eddie, got into the final climb, and once the dudes with 4% body fat started attacking, I was promptly dropped. I rode the hardest tempo I could and called it a day for 3rd!
