Last long-ish ride of the year.

Well what I day I had yesterday. Left the house at 7am, covered over 100 miles, cycling for 12 hours and 25 minutes, finally getting home at 10:40pm!!! I've never ridden so far for so long. And after the utter relentlessness that is cycling on The South Downs Way, I was amazed that my body still had enough left over to propel me the 25 miles home on the relatively flat Shipwrights Way, from Buriton. And to think at 8:30am I had a puncture, which led to a nightmare of four innertube changes, as I discovered my spare wouldn't stay inflated and that I therefore had only one good innertube on a bike with two wheels! Managed to limp to Cranleigh and find the excellent home repair man Chris (Cranleigh has no bike shop), who saved my life with a new tube. Then coffee/lunch in Shoreham with Si Lewis and 3/4 of his family, before the aforementioned pain and effort of the South Downs Way. I actually covered around 113-115 miles but my GPS'ing iPhone crapped out for a bit, amusingly as I passed the town of Cocking. This is no joke. So a cock up in Cocking then. The last hour was in darkness, save for the light of a waxing moon. And I surprised many sheep and several deer as I hurtled through fields and Alice Holt Forest, like a man possessed trying to get home. What a truly epic ride!
