Pre Christmas lunch with friends

A slow getaway today. Became even slower as we tried to escape the clutches of Decize, not realising that the EuroVelo 6 left the town by a different route to the one we wanted and so followed the signs which took us back to our start point. Having a second go we left on the main road and stayed on roads the whole ride. To be honest, it was probably more boring than following the canal for miles as it was a series of long, dead straights, pretty well flat with either corn, sweet corn or cattle either side of the road. The only climbs we had were a couple of bridges. No cafés or restaurants for lunch so we stopped a couple of times to snack on bits we were carrying. As we neared the campsite I was congratulating myself on how flat the route had been but the campsite was way below our expectations and a quick search provided a good one on the outskirts of Dompierre SB, some five miles away...over a big hill! We bit the bullet and went for it and it proved a good choice. Once set-up, showered and changed we rode into town to replenish supplies and find a well-earned drink and decent meal.

Discovered a broken spoke on the Rohloff.
