Unable to get a riverside campsite we opted for one on a tributary. The problem was, there were some hills between us and our destination. I should have taken a longer, flatter option - hindsight is a wonderful thing. We rode well in the morning, stopping early for lunch as Karon’s blood sugar was low. Also short of water, we rode UP into a town and found a bar with a bunch of cyclists outside. Setting off again we were riverside for a while then cut away and headed for our campsite. The flat approaches before we got to the hills afforded great views of Mt Ventoux in the distance. Then, on the climb, everything went pear shaped. I started feeling wheezy then throwing up. Lost all my energy too. After several bouts I asked Karon to get help, so she went to the nearest house and they called an ambulance, so I ended up in A&E with Karon and the bike left with our new acquaintances. The hospital were very good and, as well as sorting me out, they arranged for someone to collect the bike then come to the hospital and collect us then drop us at the campsite! Doc says no riding for three days. It’s looking tight for the rally now. Think we may have to come up with a plan B.
