After licking my wounds from attempt 1 and having been excited about a day of adventure I decided to not go back to where I was staying but drive around to the other side and make an attempt up this way.

Same distance about 5km, this time relentless bogs (knee deep, of course) and then the snow started. Any reasonable person would see this as a sign to turn around when their only waterproof layer is a 2.5L jacket that has been in rain for a few hours already. Fuck that. I marched onwards until such time as my feet had lost most of their feeling in the snow and I lost sight of the track again.

Being out there by myself with no map, no one knowing where I was, on a track I hadn't been on before with the weather closing in, each step up the mountain was one step further away from safety and one step closer to being a problem. Maybe this is why I am just so unreasonable with my expectations at work. Your comfortable office job is a fucking walk in the park compared to this and you find that difficult?

Defeated twice in the one day by the same track. Thanks for having me NZ!

This was not a calorie deficit day.
