Finished my first 50k today! It wasn’t pretty, but I managed to get on the podium for 3rd. Felt ok through about 23-24 miles but by 25 I was in full bonk mode - which isn’t all that surprising since that’s literally as far as I’ve ever run before today.. By 28 I was seriously dizzy and seeing pulsating white lines. I considered that perhaps my number had finally come up - but there’s a lot worse ways to go than falling off the rock ledge into the bay, so 🤷🏼‍♂️.  As it were, some people’s voices in my head reminded me not to do anything stupid, so I stopped and walked several times until I could run in only a semi-drunk fashion.. As a side note - the last 1-1.5 miles of this course aren’t the greatest for someone whose equilibrium is shot. Even though it wasn’t a strong finish, given where I was 18 days ago I’m still happy with the outcome and grateful to be healthy and running! The weather turned out to be pretty decent for racing, though a bit on the humid side. The course was muddy in sections from all the rain this week and had a few more twists and turns than I expected. Regardless, Deception Pass State Park is a beautiful place to run! Thanks to the race organizers @Rainshadow Running and all the volunteers for putting on a great event!
