Oof. That hurt. I was going to bike home, but happy to get a ride from Annie.

I have to say, I kind of wish I went for a nice 2-hour morning long run, then spent the day with my wife and son. This was so long and so flat! SO FLAT! The repetitive motion is so repetitive! There is no variation in stride to speak of.

Do you know how far a mile is?! It's so far. So far. Around mile 19, I started having IT band tightness pain. I ended up stopping to stretch nearly every mile until around mile 40.

Each mile felt interminable. It's true what they say: there is no substitute for the trial of miles. Another 20 miles a week for the past 6 months, and it would have been a different story.

My nutrition was pretty good. I never bonked. However, I did not drink enough water. After about 25 miles, I was noticing that my heartrate seemed quite high for the pace I was running. I tried to ease off, but didn't properly read the signs that dehydration was at fault. 
I felt crappy. My crappy feeling fed a lack of stoke for running a long flat route, and made me feel pretty dour. 

Eventually, I figured it out. I drank a lot at a water break, walked for a while to let it settle, and felt worlds better. My HR went back to something more normal. Ahhh...

I kept run-walking. A few minutes walking about 4mph let me eat and drink a little, stretch my legs, and then I was able to run for a while. I kept this up, and the miles plodded by.

I tried to keep perspective, reminding myself that it's pretty amazing that I can do something horrible like this for "fun", and that it was a beautiful day.

I made it through. Certainly, I could have gone faster, given better hydration, and more importantly, more stoke. Someone fast, could do this MUCH faster. Hopefully, someone takes that challenge soon!
