So freaking pumped! This was a completely different race than two weeks ago. I felt ready but was nervous being the slowest seed. They took the Hoka NY/NJ guys and put them in their own heat so I knew I *probably* wasn't going to get lapped. Right from the break point I slotted into last (8th) and hung onto the pack. Within the first mile I noticed the guy I was latched onto was laboring and I had to pass to keep somewhat connected with the pack. Now I found myself in no man's land but with another running falling off pace. Halfway felt much more difficult and I let my mind slip into being complacent with an effort above 15 given the heat, or even a drop... But I held it together to move up. From 2k to go to 800m to go I really struggled. I was able to keep motivated by aiming for other runners falling off pace and found myself in third with a lap to go. I knew I just needed to maintain 5min/mi pace to break 15 and finished much better (though I did still get out kicked). Huge monkey off my back and now it's on to the mile in two weeks!
