Today was particularly tough, partly because it’s the longest I’ve ever run in the mountains and partly because I had a 5km error in my spreadsheet. 

I would have  taken it in my stride, except that I only noticed at 17:15 when my distance showed I was almost finished and I thought: “Wasn’t there another pass today?”. (Uhm yes.. Klausenpass!) I’d taken my time until then: Sitting down for a drink in Linthal, climbing a detour for a nice lunch (with a Goaten Gate bridge!! 😂) and swimming in the river at 16:00, but then realized it would be a real push to reach Urigen before the hotel restaurant closed. 😱

Other lowlights today include but are not limited to: Underestimating the amount of climbing after Klausenpass, my phone threatening to die (I don’t have a cable for it and the powerbank), finding no water between lunch and Klausenpass, watching my entire foot disappear in cow dung and mud and a painful shock from the cow fence when opening a gate while trying to hold on to my poles.

Despite it not entirely being my day, I felt  overwhelmed by support! Hagen and Clio left me flowers on stage 9 to find later in the week and I received encouraging messages from Anna, Andy, Melissa, Mez, Mira, Marlies and Nassim. I got lost on an asphalt road and the path on the app did not exist, but I could go and check Wouter’s route (the male FKT record holder) to be reassured that it also didn’t exist last week. 😅 I’ve had so much great trail advise including eating olives (Lindsey), drinking apfelschorle (Anna), drinking cola (Quentin) and packing and taking gels when the day gets long and your reserves are low (Cornel). Also to all of you that comment on my activities on Strava, I really appreciate it! 🙏🏻

I might be running solo but definitely not doing it alone! 🥰
