San Jacinto Wilderness PCT 50k: Christopher and I were supposed to run our PCT Series 50k yesterday from the Devils Slide Trailhead in Idyllwild to the 10 Freeway in the Whitewater area near Palm Springs, but it was not to be. We started our run at 3am and had a 2.4 mile climb up to Saddle Junction, this is where we got mixed up and took a wrong turn on the Southbound PCT instead of going to the North... The sun began to rise shortly after 6am and that’s when we realized that we were heading in the wrong direction, unfortunately we had gone 10.5 miles South on the PCT until we figured it out... Note: This is the only PCT run that I didn’t study on google maps because I thought it was a very easy route to follow, lesson learned. So we ended up going back to the North until we got the mileage we were looking for and then headed back to our finish at the Devils Slide Trailhead.
It ended up being a huge blessing in hindsight, we ended up exploring many miles of the southbound PCT that we would’ve never thought of exploring anytime soon. The trails are amazing and we had so much fun, lots of vert and tons of photo ops. We ended up with 33+ miles and over 7000’ of vert, what an awesome, unexpected day spent in the San Jacinto Wilderness!
Lord willing, we’ll be back before winter to take another crack at our Partners PCT 50k...
