good to wind up the Ritte in the cold darkness as a morning commuter but my front light fell off and I had to carry it. Death by PowerPoint all day at an In-Processing fiasco from 7-15:00...I'd rather chew glass. But getting into a group ride afterward topped off the day perfectly. We met at the Ramstein Bike Shop after a Groß café und Nuplo. Rob was there, met Coy, Dirk, JanPhilip, Sandra & Stefan (I think). Killer wind all day, we could barely hear each other speak. We rode 2 abreast, to heck with traffic, we had power in numbers. We kept a conversation pace the whole time except for a little climb where JanPhilip jumped while Coy and Rob where on the front and he took Dirk and I with him. We briefly sat up and then Dirk jumped again. I started too fast at the bottom and didn't know the finish and ran out of gas just before the top but it was good to ride just behind Dirk who essentially was doing his taxes sipping tea while making us wheeze and sputter serpentining up the climb. On the other end we bombed down following big Stefan who, last I looked was killing it around 66kmp and then stood oots and leapt from us again pulling clear...whoosh (to borrow a phrase). A few other times we/I pushed the pace for fun but no one really wanted to play.  i miss the early morning Mini-World Championships where Leland, Bull, VD, Dave, Chris, Peter and Baker would battling it out for the weekly Rainbow Jersey Sagan-style weaving through traffic, blowing red lights and drafting unsuspecting Japanese commuters as we rush for home from Oume or Onsen.  This was a bit different as I was essentially alone and felt more like a Kamikaze than a surging group pushing for that extra second on the segment or that extra 0.1kmph average.  Once back at the Bike Shop we said our Tschusses and Rob and I headed home into the westerly wind via Niedermohr. It was good to rev it up a bit but we weren't on the same page so we dailed it back bit and just enjoyed the setting sun and cool down. Nice ride for a Wednesday.
