Marathon distance, but felt like a short Ultra - great scenery and stupid hills to climb and descend.

My goal was under 4 hours and to enjoy the day. I ended up with the same average heart rate as for the New Forest marathon, but 28 minutes slower (680m vs 246m elevation, net uphill 95m). I was walking the uphill sections, or parts of them, towards the end. Cracking weather, no trouble with any mud.

Over 200 marshalls and great signage made it impossible to get lost. Lots of water/feed stations, 13 I think. Water or squash at all, later ones had flapjack, jelly beans, bananas and a couple of other bits and bobs

My GPS under-tracked again, otherwise would have been a marathon 3rd PB (only my 3rd marathon, in the Marlborough Ultra I was much slower to 26.2 miles)

Ed met me at the gate by Farley monument and ran down the hill with me, then met me again briefly on Sarum road, and then ran the last 500m with me. Much appreciated.
