Afternoon Ride

Honestly, the best part of this race weekend was that my baby daughter Grace, my wife and my dad all came to support me. This was Grace’s first trip more than an hour from home and I’d say it went pretty well over all. 
I ended up having a tough day today. Ended up missing the main break of 3 around mile 30. I chased hard on and off for the next 30 miles hoping some folks would want to push from there to the finish, but nobody did. The course wasn’t very hilly at all, and with a big group of around 10 I could never break away. I foolishly hesitated at the 65 mile check point, which was the only place I stopped and ended up missing filling my bottles. This lead to dehydration and a loss of power the last 40 miles. Fortunately one of the photographers driving with our group was kind enough to hand me a water bottle which helped some. I ended up just surfing wheels for the last bit of the race and ended up in a sprint with a few folks finishing in 8th overall. Today was a day that I really didn’t ride that smart, but I like to race hard all day and am thankful I was able to come away with a decent finish.
