For those interested: 
Kariong Hill has always been a bit of a mental blank for me, and I have always wondered why noone has nailed it up there. Today I forgot it was Kariong hill, and rode with this in mind; 

1. On Friday in the TT I did 456w for 5mins on my TT bike. My evidence suggests 20watts lost in TT position, therefore , should be able to hold 470w for 5mins. 
2. Using that info, I aimed for 470w for 5mins up Kariong knowing I have the legs of my life. By the time I did 5mins at 470w I was almost at the top of Kariong. I cracked but was able to hold it together for 50 more seconds. 
3. for full disclosure, I had an excellent tailwind for 70% of the climb. I had nice and warm conditions. I wore full race spec skinsuit, no extra weight like bidons or saddle bag. I had my tyres pumped up and race wheels and tyres. 
4. There was a steady stream of traffic the whole way up.
