Running has brought the best and worst out of me. It has been a way for me to manage stress that is a part of life, explore the great outdoors mand best of all, feel alive (even if sometimes I’m in pain). I originally planned to run the Cross Rivendell Trail but there were questions about a private land owner closing their section of the trail thus this gem of a route came into view. I have, what I have come to call, chronic leg fatigue. Despite my best efforts in preventing leg cramps, it’s bound to happen at some point during my long runs. Due to this knowledge, I decided to try and pound out the first half with grace then pull back a little for the second half. I felt great leading up to Mount Sunapee. The slick and muddy/watery conditions took its toll up Sunapee and down into Newbury. I took a spill going down a steep section of trail after Bly cemetery and my left calf instantly seized, causing some great pain and delay. I was able to walk it off but that set into motion the recurrent cramps I would feel for the remainder of the run. The last 10 miles were tough, the last 5 of which were a mix of walk/run.
Overall, this route was fantastic. I was pumped about the trail sections being part of the SRK I have not run before but also because of the fresh snow that fell the day prior. The road sections granted opportunity to catch up on time, but unfortunately I was not quick enough to catch the overall FKT for this route, missing it by about 18 minutes. Taking a break from Strava after this, would like to try something different for a while. Don’t worry, I’m still going to run, need to finish out my 2,020 miles in the year 2020.
Did I mention this would have been my father’s 59th birthday, RIP old man. I hope you enjoyed the adventure today.
