About halfway through my third margarita last night, while feeling sad about the state of our country, I decided I missed the White Rim. I feverishly got my stuff together this morning, sped out there, jumped out of the car, and got going just before noon--theoretically leaving juuust enough time to squeak in a lap before darkness if I rode steady. I didn't plan on taking a swing at the record, but when I realized that the legs felt pretty good and the wind was very calm, I decided to push in a bit. I didn't set up any time checks, but figured it was going pretty well based on what I'd remembered from a year and a half ago. Kind of tempting to train hard a couple weeks and then go back out after some moisture tamps down the super sandy conditions, but also kinda satisfied with just seeing a lot of improvement compared to 1.5 years ago. This hurt was less than last time, which was nice too.
